Blackmore's Sydney Running Festival
Once again the Foundation was represented by 3 energetic runners over the weekend. George Dragunow, Tonia Wood and Rebecca Straker took on the Blackmore's Sydney Running Festival and helped raise funds for the foundation.
Combined they managed to raise $1717.00 for the foundation which is a fantastic effort and we thank them very much for all their efforts! This event being the first time we have fundraised on the Go Fundraise website and it was great to see the words of encouragement from donors to spur on our runners! http://www.gofundraise.com.au/CharityDetail.aspx?cid=133
It was a perfect 06:20am start for George who took on the half marathon. "Milsons Point was a buzz of activity with a whole bunch of people out to challenge themselves and have a good time doing it. I was ready, albeit for a “niggling” hamstring injury, so the race plan was to start and finish without stopping all within 2 hours. All was pretty good until I hit 18km at which point I had some acute muscle pains but pushed through the pain and crossed the finish at the Opera House. It was a good time considering the ailments." 1:55:06. Under the 2 hour mark; Well done George!
Tonia ran the 9km Bridge Run and thoroughly enjoyed it. "I felt really good, managed to pace myself and handled the hills at Mrs Macquarie's Chair really well. The run down Macquarie Street and the finish in front of the Opera House made me feel like I was in the Olympics! It was my second time doing the Bridge Run and I was a bit disappointed I only improved last year's time by a minute. There were about 15,000 people participating in the Bridge Run and it was difficult to dodge people and get into a smooth rhythm." Great effort Tonia!
Again thanks to all our runners. The money you have raised will go a long way!
